New home for Revived Mouse House 110 Engine
Posted by: Lane66m ()

Well, testing of the Mouse House 110 Engine is delayed. Rick's mother passed away Friday and he is in New York attending to arrangements and house issues.

In the interim, we are preparing the new home for the Mouse House 110 Engine. The engine currently in the LM PG car is being prepped for removal. All upper engine items needing removal have been removed or disconnected.

The car is up in the air where the rear bumper lower edge is 29 1/2 inches above the floor. That appears to be about 4 inches of clearance to drag the engine out from under the car.

I have mounted the engine removal cradle I bought from Dave Motohead to my 800 lb rated transmission jack. Just a hint to people getting these cradles. Make sure you have great bits to drill the cradles as this is good steel they used.

Tomorrow, Donna and I will be removing items on lower side of engine and transaxle. We hope to pull engine tomorrow afternoon or saturday.

Yep. That engine needed to come out even if it was just for a good cleaning and painting.

Not much done today. Dealing with Camping World on the RV slowed down our progress on the engine re,oval.

We got the rear grill, mount cover and exhaust pipe/muffler off today.

Engine was pulled out Thursday evening. Got word that our welder would weld in rear quarter inner panels on Monday or Tuesday and wanted engine out.

Today we split the transaxle from the engine. We have soaked it down with Gunk engine cleaner to start loosening the grease that is all over the unit. Transaxle is a 3.55 gears with PG.

This PG i removed was a greasy mess. Strange how all the oil leaks in back can grease up something ahead of the leaks. It had about 1/4" off greasy dirt all over the transmission. Donna has worked most of the thick meds off, while I worked on the engine test stand an the Mouse House 110 Engine.

I just found out today my PG screen was useless. Thought it would be a pull pan, drain fluid, clean screen, install pan and add fluid. Nope, need a screen that is intact. Guess 50+ years takes it toll on the screen.

I went and got the NOS screen. Don't want to think of it having any issues in the future.

How about a pic of this screen? Was the pan damaged?

Installation of engine will be delayed. Repair of inner fender (skirts) needed to keep water and mud out of the compartment. Repairs starting tomorrow.

Left side we got the panel from Clark's, as it is part of the battery tray. Right side there is no replacement panels made that I was made aware of so far. My welder said it is no issue. He will remove the fiberglass and Bondo repairs previously done. He will then cut out the rusted metal. He will form new metal to fit and weld it in.

Should start clean up of bay by Sunday and assemble engine to transaxle by early next week, I hope.

Here are the photos of the PG pan and the screen. No damage to pan. Looks like damage(holes in screen) may have self inflicted by persons in the transmission prior to me opening it up.

I have a screen ordered from Don's Auto Parts and a PG reseal kit from Clark's. Putting covers on until I get parts. I am sure other people would run the screen, but I am not willing to operate with damaged items that protect the transmission.

Welding on rear quarters inner panels has been completed. Time to clean compartment up to ready for engine installation.

Awaiting parts for PG transmission. It is cleaned up.

Engine was run for another 10 minutes and still have the noisy lifter.

A rebuilt set of driveshaft are at the car ready for installation. The ones removed were ok to use again, but I want to ensure reliability on this installation.

Engine compartment is all cleaned up. Spare tire mount removed and is now scrap metal.

Heater box is refurbished and ready to go in. A stud broke on removal, so it will be replaced with a thread insert tomorrow.

Wiring clean up is in work. Circuit breaker will be installed in compartment to protect car. Previous PO's wiring will be cleaned up and color coded to make it easier to know systems (fuel pump power vs blower fan power).

Broken mount stud replaced with a 1/4-20 nut gripsert. Heater box installed and outlet hose and brace installed. Started left hose installation, but stopped by mess of added wiring to a dual use relay, unsecured body harness and unsecured main fuel line. Work in progress to secure main harness and fuel line. Looks like a couple of gripserts will have to be installed as some clamps are broken off. Added wiring will be color coded tomorrow and bundled within plastic tubing wherever possible. Wire controlling fan was found taped with cut damaged to copper strands underneath. Wire goes to relay. It will be shortened, allowing relocation of relay to a better location.

Worked on the wiring some today. I was able to run the 3 non-factory wires through the body harness connector. Now there is no new connector or loose wires needing a feedthru to engine compartment. Just have to wire the engine side up to circuit breaker and inertia switch. Also I need to wire up the wires that remain on the front side of the firewall at the relay and to blower motor. I need to wire up the new connector for the PS64 low oil pressure switch connector still.

Engine harness was installed and lights had bulbs inserted and mounted into housings. Swapped alternator plug to the internally regulated style plug. Mounted a bracket clip to sub-frame to clip engine harness main connector to as nearest hole would have put a hard twist in harness.

Mounted the circuit breaker on sub-frame and connected engine harness wires to it.

Almost ready for the engine.

No photos as I was rushing to get home. Will take some once wiring is complete.

Completed wiring from main engine connector to circuit breaker add needed wires and ATO fuse holders. Connected wiring to inertia switch and routed one wire to where it will run with low oil pressure switch wiring.

Started to wire existing relay to run fuel pump and blower motor. Realized this relay only got switched power from the fan switch. Rewiring of blower motor done. Installed battery and connected to car wiring. Switched on ignition and turned fan switch on. No response at any selection. I need to check my ground first and add a ground from blower motor to nearby structure.

Found high speed wire had come out of fan switch connector at heater controls. Spade connector lock was mangled somewhat and would not hold in connector. Also improved grounding at relay and fan motor.

I decided to run color coded wires to the back since the existing added red and black wires can be confusing. The hi speed fan wire is now orange again. The electric fuel pump is getting a blue wire for the relay that is controlling the pump. The pump is getting a beige wire (same as on the pump right now).

Of course, this meant I had to pull the tunnel panels and heat duct down. Wires have been run in plastic tubing. While we are in the tunnel, I will secure the loose fuel and brake lines. And also better secure the body harness.

Accelerator bushings will be renewed along with installing Roger Parent's pivots for the accelerator rod. Any thing that can be cleaned up will be done before panels are installed.
